Thread: need to dye a wood bright yellow

    I would use Yellowheart, and if you desire a brighter or more Lemon yellow, use dye before finishing. Seal with clear Shellac, and top coat with something like USL or Qualac.

    Be careful. The Zinsser shellac product called Clear is shellac that still contains it's natural wax. Waterborne finishes, such as the USL, adhere to dewaxed shellac--shellac with wax--not so much. The only Zinnser shellac products are it's aerosol spray shellac, and it's Seal Coat lliquid. The Aerosol is ideal for small projects.
