    snecked plow plane irons

Can anyone tell me the reason for snecked plow plane irons? Just getting into plow planes and cannot find the answer anywhere. Thanks in advance.

    Snecked irons

The reason for the snecked irons is to ease adjustment of the blade. It is easy to pound on the blade to move it down, but the plough plane doesn't lend itself to be beaten (to move the blade back or up) like other planes, so the iron has that hook allowing a light tap with a mallet to adjust it back or up.
