    Faring Block Material

I need to make a long flexible faring block, say 6' long x 4" wide, and I'm wondering if there isn't a better material to use rather then wood? I'll be faring down onto the tops of these curved rafters to knock off their edges so that the roof sheathing will plane onto the rafters smoothly. The block needs to be able to bend down 4" along that 6' length.

I'll glue a long 40 grit sanding belt to the f block, and put a few small handles along it's length similar to how I did this crude plywood
    f block.

I have some very nice vertical grain wr cedar I could plane to say 1/2" thick, and that ought to bend well enough, but I was wondering if there's a better material I could use? Maybe a fiberglass batt I could purchase somewhere?

What do you boat builders use to make your faring blocks?

Try 1/2" StarBoard....Very flexible in a 6 foot length. Available at West Marine or Boaters World and most plastic suppliers.

However, it is a little $$$$ Pricey
