Thread: New Standing Mirror finished!

    New Standing Mirror finished!

Finally able to get my wife's mirror done. I saw something similar for sale online and figured I'd see if I could reproduce it by eye. I think it turned out really well.

It is made out of Alder (never worked with that before).

    Nice job Jared.
Me thinks if I show that to my wife, I'll be pushing aside the current project for this one.

I don't dare show this to my wife for at least two years.

Jared, I really like the design.

Thanks everyone. I'm still working on perfecting my finish work. I noticed a few runs in my clear coat that didn't make me happy, but it is difficult when space is limited in the garage. I seem to get a decent number of bubbles too (even though I'm careful not to wipe the excess against the side of the can).

Is there a decent top coat which you can rub on with a cloth?

Very nice, Jared. A beautiful mirror for sure.

BTW, there are instructions for uploading images to SMC at the top of the Forum Technical Support Forum. Doing that insures that the content stays with the thread for viewing in the future by community members.

I used General Finishes urethane on a mirror that I made which is pretty similar to yours. Real nice job!

Very nice Jared. How did you like working with Alder?

    Sarge..

Everybody's wife seems to want a mirror like that (mine included, I'm sure), but what about the men? I would love one too.

Good work. What does the Alder compare to in terms of workeability?

    Cheers,

    Vincent
