Power Cord Wiring Question

What did I do wrong here? I just added a cord as the last step in my Grizzly G0500 Jointer rebuild. But I definitely did something wrong. Now, whenever I plug the cord into the outlet, the jointer starts right up even though I haven't hit the start button. And when I hit stop, it doesn't stop.

The pics show the wiring box. The thickest black, white, and green wires are from the cord. They are wired exactly opposite of their thinner black, white, and green counterparts that are wired to the motor.

Any suggestions would be a great help.

If you go to the Grizzley website and find the manual for the G500, it shows that, if you are wiring it for 220/240, the hot leads attach to L1/1 and L3/5. This is shown on page 44 of the manual.

It appears to me that you have both of the hot leads on the "T" side of the contactor which would bypass it.

It's pretty obvious that you have bypassed the switch and have hardwired the motor. May be a connection inside the cover or in your manual. I can't tell from your pix, but someone may have this machine and chime in.

You've coected the cord to the motor terminals, (T1, T2 etc)

Power cord goes to the Line terminals (L1, L2, L3 etc.)

From the photo's it loks like L1/L3 are the power input terminals.

Go to your manual, or the Grizzly site for a wiring diagram.

Thanks guys, it worked! This is a major case of, "If all else fails, read the directions," I guess. Somehow I missed the chart. I would have called Grizzly, but the written instructions say "hire an electrician."

Based on your advice (and the manual) I moved the white and black power cord wires to L1 and L3, and surprise, surprise, the motor starts and stops as directed. Perfect!

The initial tune-up is underway. There is a whole "Shiraz saves the day" story to go along with this. Once everything is running smoothly, I'll share that one.
