Enough with Adirondack things

So I'm looking to build a little love seat or chair for my sitting room, and I'm searching around for plans.

Why is it that no matter what I want to build, I have to wade my way though 5 zillion Adirondack versions of the item first?? I get it. Adirondack chairs are simple to build. Okay, fine.

Does anyone have a decent source for NON-Adirondack furniture plans? I hardly ever build from plans so I don't even know where to start.

Rather than search for plans, search for a picture of what you want. Once you see the picture, you can draw up your own plans. And the item will be "yours" rather than someone else's design.

Boy, you are right. I tried to help with some searches of my own and the first several pages are adirondack plans!

You do know that you can include "and not" in your search engine searches, right? Google also has an advance search function that allows you to weed out certain terms.

This really is the best idea, and what I'll probably end up doing. I was really just kind of hoping for a mindless build this time around. Just a quick, cut here and glue there kind of thing that I could just crank out without giving it much thought.

In Google, you can filter against certain words by placing a "-" directly in front of them. In your case, go to http://images.google.com and search for:

interesting loveseat wood -adirondack

I subscribe to Fine Woodworking online and there are an almost unlimited number of plans in their archives on all kinds of furniture, including chairs...Windsor chairs, Morris chairs, Queen Anne chairs, Arts & Craft chairs and yes, even Adirondack chairs.

Personally, I prefer working from plans because I can always tweak the design to suit my likes but at the same time, I don't have to try and re-invent the wheel. The proportions on proven designs are excellent, also. I don't see very many "new" chair designs that are as good as the time-tested ones. YMMV
