Wife calls this one a keeper.

I always show my new bowls to my wife to see if she wants to keep it. She wants this one. This is a small maple HF I turned from a large slab [3 1/2' across by 4" thick] that was cut by a friend to make a table top. It sat in the weather to long and had to much rot in it for me to do as he wanted so he gave it to me to see if I could use any of it for turning. I cut around the rot to get three bowl blanks about the size of this bowl. 7" dia. by 3.5" high. I also got a box full of stopper and game calls blanks.
Thanks,
Jack

Jack, you really did justice to that wood. Very nice bowl, your wife is right to keep it. What is the finish?

WOW!!! All that curl, that rich color and the high gloss finish - it is no wonder your wife claims this as a keeper! Beautiful work Jack! Looking forward to seeing what you turn next!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. To answer a few questions, the color is what mother nature gave me and the finish is deft, which i used a lot of to fix some very soft spots in this form. It soaked it up like a sponge in the bottom area of the bowl. It took about 4 coats on the bottom before it started to finish like the rest of the bowl.
Thanks again,
Jack

I agree it is a keeper. Really nice piece of wood and your form and execution really show it off.

Great job working around the rot! Beautiful piece, a nice save of what was probably headed for the wood stove or landfill.
