Toy box/desk?

A few people have asked me for toy boxes in the last couple weeks. I have the basic design in my head but I want to do a little extra. I am thinking about a standard toy box with a slanted lid, but I want to be able to flip a switch/move a lever and have the lid fold forward so it can be used as a small desk. Has anyone seen this or have any suggestions? Thanks

I've never seen something like that. Perhaps a big issue is how you support the desk top. If you don't have legs under the front edge, there's some risk that a kid would lean on the front edge and overturn the toy box. But if you have legs, that adds complexity to the design; you need not only a desk top, but legs too. And the legs have to be fastened well enough that a kid can't accidentally kick them sideways.

How 'bout making two pieces of furniture? One would be a standard toy box, with wheelss. The other would be a table/desk. The toy box would be sized to just roll underneath the table. Together, they stow in a space only a little larger than the toy box alone. Apart, they're the two functions you're trying to accomplish.

I have seen coffee tables where the top pulls up and out. you may want to look at something like that for the toy chest desk.
