A little maple wood gloat

I just found this wood in a mans yard this weekend. He had cut the tree down and left about 4 feet standing in his front yard. When I asked him if he would let me have what was in the stump he was more than glad to get it down and gone. I had to quarter it up to cut it off the stump with my 20" saw. It was right at 39" across the short side of the stump and close to 48" across the long side. I hope it turns out as nice as it looks right now.

very nice looking wood. The dark markings closer to the bark may be a result of some type of tree treatment. Just an FYI... sometimes those areas contain metal or plastic so I'd be on the lookout.

Thanks everyone. I hope to turn a few nested sets from it and a few large HF's. The wife is to get a bowl from the wood. It had been in their yard for her whole life. Age and rot in the middle of the forks about 3 feet off the ground did the old tree in. It had some gravel in the forks as well. I got it out with my second cut. Had to sharpen the chain 3 times before I could get the stump cut down. All in all it should proof to be worth the effort. Some of the nicest Ambrosia maple I've ever seen.
Thanks Again,
Jack
