How to do chamfered edge with lark's tongue
I am newbie using routers. I want to use a 45 degree chamfer bit to create chamfered edges on a 6x6 post. I would like to achieve a lark's tongue finish.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Larks_tongue.JPG What is the trick? Do I need to lift the router when reaching the end of the chamfer to get the tongue? Do it by hand? I couldn't find any reference online. I will be using a handheld router. Thanks Last edited by Carlos Arteta; 11-05-2009 at 11:35 AM. |

I thought it was called a "Lamb's Tongue."
Whatever it's called, you will have to carve it by hand after routing the chamfer.

That depends on the diameter of the router bit. If the bit is large enough and matches the arch, it will do it for you.

Ditto Cody from my view.. I would rout to a stopping point then use a spoke-shave to do the arc..
Good luck...
