Drill bit size for Super Nova screw?

Hi All,

I can't find in my Super Nova manual the size drill bit you're supposed to use with the large "screw" that goes into the chuck for mounting bowls. Anybody know this? Thanks!

Measure the diameter of the screw below the threads or the solid part. That should give you the size for hard wood. You might need a smaller hole for soft woods to get a little compression in addition to the thread grip.

Page 10 of the on-line manual states a 5/16" hole should be drilled for use with the woodworm screw.

Here is the manual:
http://www.teknatool.com/products/Ch...ual_120603.pdf

Here is the text:

PREPARATION: The 10.5mm thread requires a drilled hole about 8mm (5/16”) in diameter. The screw has considerable holding power and it is sometimes difficult to unscrew, so wax or oil the thread before mounting the wood.

Thanks so much guys. I was using a 3/8" bit and not getting good results. I guess I know why now. Have a great day!

I used 5/16" for the harder wood and 1/4" for soft wood (especially if it is green wood).
