Black Walnut

Getting ready for a show and decided to try something different to see if it might appeal to someone. My wife likes it, so hopefully someone else will, too. The bowl is about 9" wide and about 3" deep. Comments of all flavors are welcomed.

I love it - photo's good too. I'v always liked transition / contrast pieces. This gives you a sense of where the wood came from and how it got there.

Mark,

I'm with Paul. I like this contrast piece!

Question, how did you mount it to the lathe?

That's a great looking piece. I agree on the contrast and photo comments.

I used a faceplate ring on the bowl side and turned the bottom flat with a recessed tenon.

Thanks for sharing.

Impressive chunk of walnut Mark. I like it. How did you "texture" the edges? A touch of "rustic" should help it sell.

Richard, it was a very well thought-out process for texturing the edges... This chunk of wood sat on the ground by my wood pile for over a year serving only to elevate other pieces off the ground as I'd cut them with my chainsaw. Finally one day I decided to trim it up and put it on the rack for some future unknown project. It had been there for well over a year before I pulled it down last night and started in on it.

Thanks Mark. Thought that left side had some very skilled chainsaw "texturing".
