Anyone have a plastic magnetic featherboard they'd want to sell?
I hope it's OK if I ask the following question. I'm looking for this type of featherboard (see attached picture): http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...080,51225&ap=1
Anyone have this design they'd like to sell? Seems like a very safe setup. I'm trying to make my table saw as safe as possible (already have board buddies too). Someday I'll get a sawstop, but for now I'll stick with my Ridgid TS3650. Thanks, Greg |

Home Depot sells a RIDGID version of this for about $40.

The version Jason mentions would be my preference as you already have the board buddies. You may be specifically looking for the hold down feature which the Magswitch "Universal" unit does not offer. It does however, work on the table saw and the bandsaw so there's your trade off. I have two of the Universals.
I run a Biesemeyer fence which does not lock at the rear so the style of featherboard you are after would take care of the down pressure without worrying about the rear of the fence needing to be held down if you require a large amount of pressure. That being said I have run fence mounted featherboards and simply relied on the mass of the Bies fence to act as the holddown with good success. If the own-pressure is your main focus, I will hope someone has a set like you are after that they will sell you. If down-pressure is not the main goal, I find the "Universal" format gives me more bang for the buck due to its double sided design.

Take a look at the Grip Tite magnetic feather boards. I really like mine and they do an excellent job and are very easy to set up and remove.

I'm glad you responded about the Grip Tites. I was looking at those, but never actually saw one in person so I was leary to order one blind. My big concern is hold-down. That is, vertical pressure to keep the board from flying back up into my face via kickback. Does that thin, black piece of lexan on the Grip Tite put enough downward pressure on the board? Is it pretty strong, or would it just snap off during kick-back? Is it height adjustable? For those reasons (hold-down, vertical strength, and vertical adjustability) is why I was looking at the one I originally posted. Thanks, Greg |
