    Homebrew weed kill or ???????????????????

I stated here awhile back that I have to tuckpoint the bricks around my house. Well I am getting ready to do this and my driveway just about touches the side of my house, I mean just about 1 inch space if that between the brick on the lower part of the house and the concrete driveway. Well anyway I am wanting to make a concrete "curve" so to speak at the bottom of the brick so that future rain will just gush down the drive way and hopefully stop a couple of small leaks in my basement. Well I have a few small trees growing in this crevise. Maybe about 1/2 inch thick and then a few weeds. I am needing a sure fire way of killing these things before I put down the concrete so I wont have to have growth growing up through it and cracking it later. Any advice would be helpful. I am kind of leary of all these commercialised things that are supposed to work but have to admit that I have not tried them all..

Karl, Ortho makes a product called Triox Ground Clear Vegetation Killer that will kill any plant life it touches and keep new growth from springing up for several months.
    Please help support the Creek.

If you have established small trees/shrubs cutting them off at ground level may not do the job depending on the species. I would get some of the stuff made to kill shrubs/trees. It is stronger than roundup. Read the instructions carefully so you don't wind up killing nearby stuff that you don't want to kill.

fortunately I am in a situation where there is absolutely nothing else that needs to stay alive so EVERYTHING must die... and stay dead... lol okay sounds like I will be trying the Ortho triox ground clear this weekend... In the past I tried some clorox on some growth, heheheh did not harm it at all... never died, just grew...

Diesel works too, it kills weeds well, but it doesn't keep them down as long as roundup. Personally I suggest roundup. Nothing has ever killed weeds like round up does for me. I have tried to ortho with mixed results. But roundup kills everything usually for multiple years, but it does cost more.

I treat my deck with a water repellent and spray the left-over on the grass- kill it ---pouring sugar on the weeds will also kill them for a month or two

I have used the Ortho Poison Ivy and brush killer on bushes and small trees and have had better luck than Roundup or Triox. Things like the Triox will also leach along the ground aways and kill everything in its path.

2,4-D herbicide. cut off the tree at the ground and immediately flood the stump with the 2,4-D. This will kill a tree, even honey locusts will not sprout.

Karl, you want something for total vegetation kill that has residual action. Roundup is not designed for residual action, only a one time kill, so it is not your best option.

Farm stores sell products for this use. Read the lables carefully, there are different options for mixing strength.

Personally, I use a product called Pramitol 25E on my farm. Mixed properly, it is good for 1 year or more. This is the same herbicide that many highway departments use to kill weeds along guardrails, etc. It is typically mixed with diesel, but it can also be mixed with water. A gallon of concentrate is good for 10,000 sq ft.

Thanks for the clorox for mosquitoes idea. I been using something from home depot that's a bit expensive. Clorox is cheap compared to it. How do you mix it (water/clorox)?

Scott beat me to it. I have not had much luck with the stuff sold in the local home improvement stores. A good pump sprayer + stuff sold @ farm stores definitely works. I look at the back and see which bottle has the most active ingredient per $$$ (you can always water it down as needed).
