    Any idea what switches other bandsawsuse? I'd assume problems with dust ingress would be universal to the type of machine, and the motor requirements would be similar to other bandsaws in the size/weight range.

    On my planer I installed a mercury switch contactor because I found one cheap. It works great because it is totally sealed so no way for dust to get into the switch. Probably outlawed since it has mercury. I do not really understand how it works I think the mercury is the only moving part. Is mercury magnetic?
    That switch is why I mentioned reed switches which use a similar principle. Of course a reed switch still could have the operating lever fouled by dust build up.
