  1. Keep the central batten press fit tight in your most humid month. Wax the sides before assembly, that way if you get stuck as I did, it can be driven out from below.

    I made my center batten "wide" enough to slip F clamps through the gaps.

    Afterwards I installed a Record 146 holdfast. That has been more useful for light clamping, assembly, carving, etc. The collar must be let into the top.

    The best part of a full length batten is face planing long boards from either side of my bench.
