Conversation Between Eric Gustafson and Fred Floyd

  1. Eric: My apologies for the late post. The moulder knives come from www.custommouldingknives.com. Send him a drawing of the shape you need, and he can produce them and mail to you in a few days. He has a line of standard moulding knives but can make anything you want. I purchased a set of knives to make the cradle for the second pass. That may not be necessary. I think Norm used the Williams and Hussey service. Since I have the ShopFox knock-off, I went the the above guy - His work is excellent and prices are fair.
  2. Fred,

You gave this post (see below) to a thread about Plantation shutters. I see that you used a molder. I own a woodmaster molder and would like to use that. Where did you buy the knives for your molder?

Fred Floyd: "I bought the plans from Norm's New Yankee Workshop and made the shutters as he did, with curved louvers.

I tried the router bit method without much success. With about 11 windows to do, I convinced my better half that I need the Shop Fox moulder. That turned out to make the project more expensive, but the louvers came out perfect.

The first batch was three windows in the living/dining room. I am quite pleased with the results."
