Conversation Between Scot Ferraro and nathan chandler

  1. Hi Scot, I have been reading the forums on sawmillcreek and discovered you are a Hammer A3 31 owner too. I purchased mine a couple weeks ago and have run into a couple issues. I was hoping you could share your experiences or offer any suggestions. The first stock I face jointed was 4' 2x2 red oak. The jointer performed flawlessly and the planer too. The 2x2's came out perfect. I then tried some 18" long 1x6 and 1x8. This is where I ran into trouble. While planing/thicknessing, the boards are getting stuck. After sucking in the workpiece a couple inches the machine wont continuously feed the stock through, I have to push/pull the workpiece. After peeking inside the rollers are moving, it seems they just can't get a grip of the stock. I am wondering if the larger surface area of the 1x6's and 1x8's are creating too much friction on the planer bed for the rollers. Do you wax/lubricate your planer bed? I am working with Felder/Hammer now to resolve the issue, but they don't seem to know what's going on either. Can you offer any advice?

    Thanks in advance.
