Can you even see the applied veneer piece on the edge here?

Just below the bottom shelve in the headboard, I needed to add this structural element. It would serve to raise the shelf to a height that would keep my nieces head and her pillows below the shelf level so that she wouldn’t disturb anything on them while she slept. I added some more of those corner brackets under/inside of the piece for integrity.

Time to start putting the headboard together!

And give it a quick try, dry mounted up on the base. Fits beautifully!

The top of the headboard had an arcing cross member on it and this is where the second pattern/template came into being. Again using hardboard, I used a long strip of wood to act as a compass and experimented until I got an arc that was pleasing to the eye, and more importantly, fit the piece of wood I wanted to use for the cross piece.

Just as with the other hardboard template, I cut it out and sanded it smooth and then used it to trace the pattern on the piece of oak. The band saw was again pressed into service to cut outside of the lines and again as with the other template, used the router table and the flush trim bit to get the piece to the size needed.
