According to the post made today in the" Banjo Nirvana" thread, Mr. Shiraz Bilolia stated he wants to make a new banjo and rest for the G0766 to make it a fully capable 22" swing lathe........his statement was that he hears the serious turners who have made comments about the too short banjo.

I appreciate very much him coming on the turners forum and addressing owners......shows a lot of class and that he cares about his customers. I just wanted to give him some kudos on this Grizzly Green Monster Group corner of SMC!

update: as of Mr. Bololia's last post, they will be modifying the banjo to accept the current rest, and it will sit close to 7/8" below centerline. Just wanted to report accurately as things develop for the 0766 lathe banjo modification they are proposing at Grizzly.

Wow, this is fantastic news. I missed this man's post in the forum. Do you know if they will allow existing customers to send in their banjo and rest for a replacement? I'd be willing to pay for that, just so long as it isn't the same cost as a brand new set.

No need to send the old banjo in. Most of the parts from the old banjo go on the new one. All 766 owners will get the new banjo free regardless of when they bought their 766. I'll be getting another very soon. A huge pecan on my place being cut down and I have to save any wood I can. A few other things to take care of and then I'll be ready for a lathe again. I don't want to get one in and have it sit in the crate for weeks.

    Dear Jeramie,
Thank you for your patience regarding this matter.
We have just received new information from our corporate headquarters changing how the banjo and tool rest situation is to be rectified. We are having a new tool rest base casting made that will be 5" longer and 1/2" shorter. This will take care of both the swing and height concerns. Once we receive the new tool rest bases, we will be shipping them out at no charge. Please note that this will take a few months to be cast, machined, and arrive from the factory.

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused. If we may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Sincerely,

I am very glad to hear that Grizzly is going the extra mile to enhance this machine to achieve it's full capability. It should pay off for them as it is a good lathe and this will help achieve greatness. I am very impressed that Grizzly proactively monitors it's customer community and is responsive and willing to invest in improving functionality and doing so no charge to existing customers of the machine.

95% of my shop is Grizzly equipment. When I was in process buying machines the reason they won was what I saw as superior customer service and availability of reasonably priced repair parts. It is great to see that they are still maintaining good service and doing the right thing. I believe it will help them sell more machines, not just this great new lathe. This lathe is my next acquisition and this news pretty much locked it in, though it may be a while until I can spring for it. Thanks for the news on this.

    David,

I was talking to a tech last week about something else and had him check if they had any new information concerning the banjo. He said they didn't and repeated the same update we got to begin with.
