Jerry, in addition to all the good advice on making sure the poly finish is smooth and cured before buffing, I would also highly suggest using some...

    Jeff:

I believe I saw you were selling steady rests. I would like one for my Robust American Beauty. How much and how do we proceed? Will it work for spindle work as well as bowls and hollow forms? My present need is for spindles but I want to move into hollow forms in the future when my skills progress.

We expect to get to 100 by the end of the week here but we dont get near the humidity you do.
My brother called me from Arizona tonight to tell me he got the walnut I sent him. I had sliced up a dozen 6"x12"x1" pieces out of a slab for him. he was floored at the score! he could not believe the color and grain in the wood. He don't turn but will be making something fabulous from it I am sure.

Smoochin in the snow..woot woot. sounds like good memories, just dont tell the missus

Hey Jeff --Les Kuesel here from Menomonie, first creeker I've seen that is close. I just started turning about a year ago. I really wanted to turn bowls but I have been having so much fun turning bottle stoppers, fishing lures and turkey calls. It sure looks like you do very nice work. I have the harbor frieght (Jet clone) lathe but have been looking for a mini how do you like yours? Maybe some time we could get together and compare notes.
  8. Bill, That is great! My dad and I have been working on a threading attachment for my old cheapo lathe, so the new longsworth will be on the to do list. My dad is 70 and he has bad tremors in his hands so woodworking is hard for him, so he now has 2 metal lathes and a nice Grizzly mill. With the metal working tools the tremors don't transfer to the workpiece and I kep him busy making me things for my lathes! And we put the threader to the test today and it works great! Thanks for your reply.

Thanks Jeff! Yes it is one of my earlier ones. I have 2 for sale in the classified here if you want A bit closer view. I have found that using 3/4 ply for the big back disc will make the chuck stand up for a long long time. A few coats of mineral oil and then some paste wax between the disc's keeps everything moving smooth...Bill..
