Hi Chris Very interesting information about Stanley making M2 irons in Tas. I'll start reading up on the irons, and maybe put an order in myself. Phillip
Hi Philip, Yes - good M2 Stanley replacement irons The 'down under' folks work much more often with tougher, reversing grain, silica-filled woods than we do here in North America. This has led to leading-edge developments in M2 HSS plane irons. This started years back when Stanley had an iron-producing facility in Hobart TAZ where they made laminated M2 Stanley irons. Then Academy Saw works came out with M2 irons. Now, Helmut of WoodWork Forums is organizing a second run of M2 irons and custom chipbreakers at $45 AUD for the iron, and $15 AUD for the CB. See: http://www.woodworkforums.com/f152/s...-order-104700/ Brent Beach has also tested some of these irons. See: http://www3.telus.net/BrentBeach/Sharpen/ (He has not reported yet on Helmut's M2 irons, but will soon.) While Mujingfang irons are HSS M2 - they are not available as retrofits for Stanley/Record planes Regards, Chris
