Anyone notice ULS not advertising in the engraver's journal? Usually they have some kind of an ad in every issue.

Counterproductive? Idiotic. If you are going to ban discussions of price, why not extend the ban to prices we charge for products made with the laser? Capitalism is all about competition, and...
I have found that for small quantities, the UV cured epoxy works very well. Less mess, and a twenty minute cure also helps. Very few engravers do doming, so there is a pretty good competitive...
Maybe he means he makes a dollar an hour. Thats about what I make on a good day......

Just call your local rep for Rabbit Lasers..... I am sure they will send someone right out...

3M sells the adhesive in sheets..... put it on yourself. Not hard at all.

Couldn't get it to work. Using IE for a browser.

Sounds like they don't want to spend anything.... how about post-it notes on a piece of cardboard? This job has all of the earmarks of a money loser.

It comes from the skin of the Nauga..... Surely you've heard of Naugahyde?

Exactly. We all sell our products at perceived value, no matter how much or little it costs us. The difference is profit. Profit allows you to buy a new machine, live better, whatever. The customer...
The difference between a 30 watt laser and a 100 watt laser is most likely the energy density in the beam. It is like a magnifying glass and sunlight. The energy is concentrated in one small spot,...
My point exactly. Your customer thought that visible knots were a sign of poor quality. Imagine what they would think if they knew that perfect looking wood plaque with no knots was sawdust covered...
We were doing this in the 70's with oak. the trick is to use non compatible materials. Clear spray lacquer over the engraved text to seal the wood. Then black (or colored) latex (waterbased) brushed...
I'm not sure that this is a laser job. Sounds like a sandblasting job with cut vinyl masks, done on site where the granite is. Let your customer do all of the handling of the stone.

Todd... up until recently, 90% of our plaque work has been sublimated text and logos on Ultracoat plates. Made in england, ultracoat (sold here by Novachrome) is by far and away the best looking...
I guess my point in ll of this is that it is a slippery slope. When you start using particle board, then you start to think about cardboard.... or as the forum member said, brass plated steel.
...
Particle board really says to the recipient: You aren't worth real wood in your award, we'll give you mashed sawdust instead. The first time you drop it, you will really see what we thought of you!...
Perhaps someone was using their laser in bed... maybe trying to get that "special tattoo" when the exhaust system collapsed the room around them? You know what they say about the bedroom being a...
You do have to be carefull.... this is what can happen....
Actually, I have one customer like this; it is the state university. Their accounting system is cumbersome and slow, but usually I get paid! (it's more like net 60 though!) They usually don't get...
Ahhh... the voice of experience!

A lesson I learned about 25 years ago.... If you can't sell it to someone else, always get a deposit. Most engravers don't have the self confidence to do this. They are afraid they will lose the job...
Too bad none of the lines are joined together. It would have made a great ventilation grill.

Well, most likely the explanation is that lasers are generally sold by the watt... more watts = higher price. It's sort of like "sears horsepower" when selling air compressors. You wind up seeing a 7...
Now there's a recurring problem. I have made dozens of award samples utilizing the finest materials possible, with multiple combinations of techniques and disciplines.... everybody loves them, but...
