I'm #41 and also on Cian's list.
Kinda cool, Alan! I'd keep it there.
Amen, Alan. Personally, I like the peace, quiet, and extra space afforded me by not having a table saw.
Wow, Rob, thanks for putting it into perspective. Also, thanks for making such a cool gadget. :)
Hans, I used to have one of these, but I sold it when I no longer found it helpful for me (plus I'd just bought a spiffy dovetail saw). It can help you learn how to hold the saw though, and that's...
I have a Tormek and I love it. The hollow grind makes it faster to hone, with or without a microbevel. I really love a wet grinder; the Tormek is built sturdier than the Jet.
Ooooh. Shiny. Pretty.
Sorry, I'm away for the weekend or I'd check, but I will check when I get back.
My 103 (close cousin to the 102) looks more like Mike's. I wonder if somehow you got a 103 cap, they may be a tidge longer.
I have two of Steve Knight's planes and they are quite wonderful.
I can't see paying $1200 for a Krenov myself, but it is a chance to own a piece of history from a noted planemaker who doesn't...
If it ALWAYS turns to the left, you might want to run it on a stone once or twice more on the left and see if that helps.
I haven't yet unpacked my shaving horse from the car, believe it or not, just been a bit too stiff and sore (and it will take two people to unpack because of how I packed it). So, pics later.

Ha! I knew I was in trouble when I re-read that sentence, but I decided not to fix it. :)
Well, I was taking notes quickly. As I understood what he meant, repeated burnishings of a scraper would lead to a situation where it couldn't easily be sharpened any more (what he meant by...

1) The FWW article shows 9 zigzags on the ratchet riser. Don't take this too literally....
Congrats to Mark. For those interested in chairmaking generally (and not just Mark's chairs in particular), I posted a writeup of my week at Brian Boggs's class in the hand tool forum (with a link to...
Here's the link with Steve's shop address.
My understanding, which may be flawed: the part above the mouth puts the wood into compression and helps prevent tearout. Since the blade can create a chip (and tearout from that chip coming out), an...
Day 5: Wrap-up
Wow, it's hard to believe it's over -- it's a little surreal, honestly.
Boggs discussed the two primary differences between his chairs and the classic post-and-rung chairs.

Iyengar yoga has been helping me (and reducing my pain level and increasing my stamina). Many yoga and pilates exercises share a common root.
Sorry to hear you're in pain, Harry, and I hope you heal up quickly. I live with pain (though not as bad) and it can be very debilitating. (Somehow, my reply last night got eaten).
Day 4: It Ain't Cabinetmaking
Now that the slats have been fitted, we put the bottom legs in a taper jig and bandsaw the taper on the bottom 10" of the legs. Important note: bandsaw with curved...
(not all of today's pics are up yet and those up aren't yet sorted)
Day 3: More on bending; mortising; slat theory
For bending, you're looking for straight grain, it doesn't matter if it's...
Thanks Pam, I think I'm going to get at least one of those Very Soon Now. Had I realized we'd be chopping these by hand, I might have thought about that problem more.
