bump... it's tomorrow!
Saturday, April 21st. The MWTCA swap is in the morning, my get-together follows starting at noon.
This will be the fourth annual meet-up following the Hastings MN MWTCA swap meet!
The swap meet goes in the morning at the Hastings Armory off Hwy 61 and 316. If you haven't been to one, you're...
Steve Knight is working on a plow plane now. I know he was a little taken aback at not being invited to the conference, though.
Ooooh..... Daddy like.
Having recently acquired a Wayne Anderson smoother, I know how you feel. You can't justify it on function alone... you just smile every time you pick it up!
I just wanted to point out that for some of us, well down the slippery slope, even L-N is not considered a "high-end plane." I've got more invested in one plane than in my entire cabinet saw setup...
MWTCA is the Midwest Tool Collector's Association. Our local chapter has swap meets twice a year, usually about 30-50 dealers and tools spread over 40 or so 8' long tables. They are bad places to...
No, that photo was the haul from the spring MWTCA swap meet. The panel raiser was in applewood and is made by a guy in Milwaukee. I've got two of them, and would have more if the guy hadn't left...
I have one, it's the one on the top left. Came with several width blades and is much smaller than the typical plow plane. Not really necessary, you could do the same with a larger plane, but it was...
Aren't "Godincidences" great? Too cool to be just a coincidence.
Buy or look at the library for Tage Frid's books, he has 3, one is on basic jointmaking. Once you've seen how these joints are made, you'll have a better idea when you see one of what they used.
John's Rule of Home Improvement...
Every job requires at least three trips to the hardware store.
It could be a problem with the capacitor start. If you can return it, do so.
You might have to call them- same thing happened to me when I went to check out. Or use their instant messaging customer service- I placed the order then the guy changed the price for me.
I did the Mr. Sawdust table with plywood. Very nice. With a RAS that has a cast iron arm, you can crosscut 12" plywood and leave only the outer veneer.
Projects like this are the reason I figure I have to start getting into veneering. I love the figure and the species I can get with veneer that I'd never afford with solid lumber!
Did you use a...
Hot as heck here, but I managed to get the 10x12' shed up by this morning. This allows me to move a bunch of stuff out of the garage and free up some shop space!
Ever see the size of a real Shaker bench? 4' x 12' wouldn't be out of place, you might even find open space on it when you need it :p
I have a similar cyclone mounted to the wall. It doesn't vibrate much at speed but there is a resonance region on startup or shutdown that it vibrates more for a few seconds. You could use rubber...
Of course, you could just buy veneer and glue it to 1/8" hardboard and be done with it. You might find some better quality wood that way.
I'm putting a shed together in the yard, that will take some storage out of the garage and free up more room for my stuff.
Cutting a hole in the shop wall to fit an air conditioner.

The easy way is to buy the stock thin. You can find lots of 1/8" thick stock on Ebay, it's used for intarsia and inlays.
Or... Resaw to about 3/16". Use double sided tape to attach to the top of...
I used pressure treated 4x4's with the bases on the concrete garage floor. Used 24" lengths of 3/4" black pipe into 3/4" holes drilled at a 5 deg up angle (use a jig) lag bolted into the studs. I'm...
No progress on it today. Too many "interferences" in the way.
I'm cleaning out the garage and getting rid of some stuff there. The crappy first bench for my shop (8' section of laminate...
