I skew planes by turning them slightly any time I get tear out, as a first correction. You can skew the body to correct or you can just use it. I don't see a downside.
You should do a detailed build on tdpri.com. You will have a chance to get feedback from people who know a lot more about being a luthier than I.
I have turned a few mallets, different sizes for different needs. Your work looks good, hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.
I would guess you would have a better chance of getting some compression hardening on the surface with a machine than by hand plane. The machine hardening producing a brighter more live reflective...
Nice looking plane.
Semper Fi, Marines.
Go to the woodshop and ignore them.
I have oil, water and scary sharp. I use scary sharp the most. It is always flat, (or round... I turned some pieces to match gouges and wrap them) cheap to renew and it just works.
Millers Falls produced the lion ratchet braces. #769 to #774. 769 is a monster 16 inch. I'd recommend the 772 ten inch or better yet the 773 eight inch. These are really inexpensive and are excellent...
Most of mine are Millers Falls. Can't vote you left out lots of classic Brands.
Nice amp Scott !

I also work in the basement. I could not do it without a dehumidifier.I dont have rust problems. I can keep humidity constant ,no problems with wood sucking up the extra moisture.
Be careful with what metals you put into super clean or purple power type chemicals. The will discolor or oxidize aluminum and brass. Works great for steel or iron.
Charlie, registered is another way of saying to be in correct alignment. In this case aligned to square the chisel against the walls of a mortise.
Phillip,Thanks for the offer and the info. I will try find something locally.
I have seen several common problems listed in these responses and I bet there are as many things in common that we would like to see at woodcraft. I took a few minutes, did the survey and I hope you...
Hey Matt , nice work! I like the contrasting woods/colors.
Hello all, I need a wood that tuns like lilac but is more available.
I am going to turn a chess set( new to turning, need work on replications). I like the way lilac turns . I had dried some for...
