Thanks for the advice. If it turned out to be a smokin' deal I was going snatch it up. I'm on the fence now. I hadn't thought about upgrades because I'm just starting out, but I also don't want to...

Lee Valley has a few little Japanese "detail" saws that look like would be fun for a little kid. They are small, probably pretty sharp and I bet being a pullsaw would be easier for a kid.

I just bought a 36" solid-core door from the depot and I was kind of disapointed. For some reason I remember there being a 3/16" ply veneer of luan over the substrate, be it particle board, MDF,...

I think you're right. The legs are pretty chunky and a big dovetail in there would look more substantial.
I'm going to makes a mess and play with some different sizes.
Thanks!
I was thinking the dovetail was more aesthetic and less structural because the lap joint would be taking most of the lateral loads.
Do you recommend that it should be taller or wider, or both?
I have neither posted, or built anything in a while, so I thought I'd share this project.
I moved from San Francisco to New Jersey a few months ago, back into my old house. I have a 150 year old...
I bought one for my girlfriend last year for christmas. They said it was Monkey Pod wood, hand carved in Thailand. How true that is... I have no idea.
I got hit really hard with about 4 jobs about a month ago and actually had to turn down two of them. It is the first time I have said "No, I can't do your project..." It almost felt like a sin...
If you check out the last pic, you can see it already mounted on the wall. I ran all of the wires through the wall so there won't be any seen.
My explanation wasn't very clear, sorry about that.
The inside boxes are 3/4 birch stained black. Then I put 3/4 walnut end panels on. The top is a 3/4 walnut play stacked on birch ply. 2"...
