ALL resin is expensive!!!! If done incorrectly, it really get's expensive when you have to do it over. If no one has done it in that shop, make sure he does a practice piece. It'll be heart breaking...
5" wide is going to show some kind of crack over the years. That flat sawn wood is going to shrink next winter and this will be the result. Quarter sawn is a much better choice.

What was your logic to not glue the floating tenon? Would you do the same test with a traditional mortise and tenon and not glue them? Joinery with no glue just defies logic.
