BTW - I tossed this piece as I was feeling too much bad juju coming from it. I wasn't going to risk another attempt on this one even with a faceplate.

You guys are right - no tail stock support either. I should go back to a faceplate for my own safety for a while.

I also didn't have a good clean face for the jaws to sit against. Multiple errors in judgement. Be safe out there and happy turning.
Whoa - close one tonight. I was roughing out some bowls, and decided at the last minute to put down my cage. Halfway through the next bowl, it came off of the worm screw. It's smacked against the...
The interior looks right. If it is Palo Verde you will know it by the smell. It is pungent to say the least. Very unpleasant.

Gave the saw a workout today... Processing some acacia logs. My chainsaw didn't fair as well (started getting a lot of smoke from the bar - electric chainsaw working for a few hours ripping really...
An update:
Grizzly sent another saw - this one is much better. They appear to have opened the crate to test it but I'm not sure how they did it. Before shipping they promised to unpack the saw and...
Nice looking shop! I'm curious about the castors on your lathe - got a link? Are they the Great Lakes leveling castors for less than $20 each or the more expensive $40 or so ones? How easy are...
Stretching a tire to fit is one job that I find terrible. I've had to do 19" wheels recently and it is a nightmare. Super hot water and plenty of struggling. Best of luck!

I'm going to be curious to find out how the testing in house goes before they ship me a new one. I wonder if there is a bad production run or if we were just unlucky. I'm surprised they started...
Good luck - my fingers are crossed that the next one is going to be right. Did you check out the videos on youtube to see if your saw looks like it is doing the same?
Looks like a solution has been worked out with Grizzly that works for us both. A new saw is being prepared and will be assembled and nickel tested prior to shipment. I hope to have the new saw in...
I'm sending it back to Grizzly and getting my money back. They don't want to ship me a replacement which would allow me to use the new ones crate and pallet. Their solution was to have me purchase a...
About .004" measured at the valley of the pulley.
Sorry guys - the saw is brand new. I ordered in March and it was delivered in April. Vibration was here from initial startup. I figured it was the stock blade so ordered new ones. Everything from a...
I'm getting some runout in the drive pulley - there is a video of that. grizz tech said it should not cause my issue. I am doubtful in that response. I've done the rest and cannot isolate it beyond...
I did check both wheels with a dial indicator when I had the tires off - both were showing less than .001" in radial out of roundness. I think the whole thing is shaking from somewhere which is seen...
Hi guys,
I need help. I've been working with Grizzly tech support and the vibration problem I have on my saw is getting worse.
I've uploaded to youtube a series of videos showing the problem -...
Just a thought - it appears your tailstock is not extended very far. Have you tried another half inch or so extension and then insert your live center? If it isn't properly seated then you could...
Food for thought - do different woods sanded with the same paper exhibit different scratch patterns or roughness? Just a thought.

My daughter won one of the youth lathes at the 2014 AAW Symposium and today was our first opportunity to turn together. She wanted to turn her first bowl so we got to work on some hard maple 8/4...
I have both the 3/8" V bowl gouge and 3/8" spindle gouge along with Doug's 16" handle and swap them back and forth depending on the project at hand. I actually prefer the longer handles to the short...
You obviously have never suffered through the pain of losing a child. I find your comment highly insensitive and unnecessary. I will keep my initial comment regarding your post to myself as it was...
I had a couple hours last night to clean up a bit. Still have some rearranging to do to fit my daughters new Jet mini lathe in here somewhere. I feel better showing this picture than the messy one....
Thanks guys - I guess I'll leave it in the current orientation. Much cleaning to do still.
