My main concern is sealing it so that glue doesn't stick so readily and if not finishing the underside might cause warping.
I don't really care how it looks because, yes, it's a work bench.

I'm in the process of finishing a workbench (Roubo style that will roll) and have a question about oiling it when complete.
Should I oil the entire bench (top, underside of top, legs, stretchers) or...
Mike, I just tried to bore a hole with an ancient Irwin bit that I have (has a 6 on the side).
Not sure what the 6 refers to but it works just fine. It continued as long as I wanted to.
Probably...

I now realize I'm drilling down a glueline which may be a problem.
Here is the auger.

George, I'll check to be sure I have a clearance on the bottom edge.
Mike, I get 1/2" down and it just stops.
Clearing the hole of any chips makes no difference.
I'm leaning on it almost as hard...
I' drilling some 3/4" dog holes in my new bench and am having problems.
I have an old hand-me-down brace and bit from my grandfather that still seems to turn in circles.
I then added a new Irwin...
I've seen recommendations to glue leather pads to hold-fasts and metallic dogs.
What type of glue do you use to glue leather the metal?

I have recently purchased a bunch of doug-fir to build a workbench and am waiting for it to dry.
According to the current FWW based on the current temp (70 degrees in my garage) and the...
I purchased some Doug Fir today to build a workbench.
My question relates to how long I should expect it to take to dry.
I currently have them in my garage as 2 x 12 x 8 foot (I haven't yet cut to...
Regarding the comments/questions:
Harry, I could kick myself. I just had a friend tear down a house last summer and didn't even think to ask about looking through the wood.
Joel, the Borg is...
I'm ready to start building a real woodworking bench to replace the "do it all" bench I built 10 years ago so I've started looking at wood.
I've been to all Borg's in my area (both orange and...
Sorry for this slightly off-topic question but I'm sure there are people here that can help me out.
I've just installed a laminate floor (laminate on an mdf base) and am starting to install some...
I'm in the process of tuning a Delta 14-650 mortiser.
It's been sitting in my father's garage for about 8 years without any use.
It's in good condition (other than a bit of light rust on the...
Stephen and Sean, you seem to be giving contradictory advice.
Holding the knife more upright versus holding the knife at a lower angle (I believe that's what you're saying).
I try to keep the back...
I just purchased a marking knife (from Lee Valley) and am having problems using it.
I'm just messing around trying some dovetails (I'm learning to do them as well).
I do the tails first, no...
Currently my pins are flush with the surface of the wood, not below.
Is this correct or should the pins actually be below the surface of the wood?
thanks,

I recently purchased a dovetail saw and am wondering if I can make crosscuts with it (small tenon shoulders for example)?
Is this detrimental to the saw or is the only down-side that the cut may be...
That sounds exactly like what happened.
I left in too long and now the iron is a bit pitted (not bad but just a bit) and I have a bit of black rust.
I didn't consider that the acid would eat into...
I had soaked it over night in citric acid to remove the rust.
The red rust is gone, but now I've got this black stuff on it.
Did I soak it too long?
After soaking it did I do something to cause...
I have an ancient Stanley #7 plane that I've de-rusted using citric acid.
The plane has cleaned up but now is covered by a black powder like coating (I'm assuming it's black oxide rust).
Anyway,...
I had looked at the troubleshooting also.
I'm running at the fastest speed with as light a "cut" as possible.
I'm just confused as to why, after running for 2 or 3 passes at the same height the...
I have a fairly new Jet 16-32 drum sander.
After setting it up I have adjusted the drum to be parallel.
I've been making some cutting boards from maple and purple-heart (I know, real imaginative,...
I also have a G0490 (have had it for a couple of years) that leaves small grooves (or ripples) across the board when I joint wood (it's not a nicked blade).
I thought this was normal. I tried...
I'm looking at the Freud raised panel set and see there is a set with a back-cutter on the raised panel bit.
Can this back-cutter be removed so that the bit can be used without it?
For example I...
