You are very lucky. The gauge is indeed made by kinshirou (金四郎). As the previous poster said, discontinued, and holds its value well.

Waxing the planer table really well, helped to eliminate front grab and rear snipe. I also have a short Hammer aluminum extension table I leave attached to the outfeed side. Not sure which helped...
In case anyone is interested. Here is a Japanese retailer that sells a modified chisel in a manner similar to Derek’s. Teshiba-San understands some English, and accepts overseas orders. I don’t...
Believe the plane is meant to be pushed, based on the length of support behind the cutting edge verses the length in front of the edge. Of course you can use it whichever way is most comfortable to...
I have not used diamond paste before, but a possible downside might be that some of the diamond abrasives embed themselves in the soft iron layer of the chisel. A possible source of contamination for...
I believe the maker is 正よし (Masayoshi or Seiyoshi). Here is a link to a retail site.
I made tapered sliding dovetail supports for my small floor bench without glue (here). I would not characterize them as removable. They are tight fitting, so I had to use a clamp to assist closing...
Desmond King has an excellent (and inexpensive) kindle ebook on amazon titled "Getting The Most From Your Kanna". It includes a chapter on tuning a kiwa-ganna. He advocates carefully removing metal...
I have the same saw (ACM made), branded as a Felder FB540. It has a 2.2kW motor ~3hp equivalent. I have not resawn oak, but have resawn 12" douglas fir. Bogs down with a Lenox Tri-master 3 tpi. ...
I have several regular style 3mm japanese chisels. They are all between 6mm to 7.5mm in height. I do not have a dovetail style chisel in that size, but I would imagine that a 3mm dovetail chisel...
Luke,
I use Jnats, but would not characterize myself as knowledgeable. I can offer a little advise...
Most important is to never pre-soak your jnat stones. That will weaken and ruin them...
That’s very slick. So in addition to the slot on the disk for the wheel handle, you register two pins into holes you drilled in the wheel?
Thanks For pointing these out Randy. They are similar to the ones I cut out, only rated for 300V, not 600V. Probably ok for my application (220V single phase).
Unless I can find a reasonable source for the insulated crimp connectors, I guess I will just go with wire nuts. Looking on the web, taping electrical connections is a whole new art form.
Thanks...
I would remove the top and check the underside to see if the screw holes where the top is screwed to the table are clean and flat. Perhaps some excess material is holding the table proud along the...
I had to disconnect the motor leads from the incoming AC power on my dust collector (Oneida 2.5hp SG). The pigtails were crimp connected together using pre insulated closed ended crimp connectors...
The mortised stops I have on my small planing bench are plenty strong. I used bloodwood with tight through mortises in a live oak top. The top is 1-3/8" thick. I have to use a hammer to adjust the...
Matt,
I actually made a separate planing board with through mortise stops similar to the one Kyoto Tanaka shows on his youtube channel. The top is 1-3/8 inch thick, and the stops are 3" x 1/2". ...
I posted a couple of photos on making the foot for my floor bench here. I made a guide at the angle I wanted for the dovetail, and used it to make both the male and female portions. Derek has a...
Here is my floor bench along with my shooting board which I made a while ago. The bench is made from laminated white ash. The shooting board is made from port orford decking lumber.
The...

Honestly, if you are diligent and observant, you can find out all you need from YouTube videos and from blogs. If you would like the DVD which is pretty good from what I remember, I have an extra...
Groffs lumber has a special in paulownia 4/4 common shorts right now. In the past, I saw they had some slabs available. I have not purchased from them. I just bought some 6/4 8" wide boards from...
There are planes and a nice writeup on the Dieter Schmid fine-tools website. Another source is HNT Gordon joinery planes. They are expensive, but very high quality.
I have a Japanese dovetail...
I built a version of the David Barron guide, based on this article at the woodworkers institute. I used it with a japanese saw to cut dovetails in 1/4 inch thick boards for a small tool tray. The...
