I had the same problem with my Universal once and it was a worn out belt that was slipping slightly. It was only really noticable on thinner fonts or lines.

I'm a little confused...are you looking to dtermine cutting order? For example, instead of cutting from left to right, cutting from roght to left?

Some great info. here. While I have done some of this type of work I never thought of using a post script fill either.

I would think routing out the spot for the blade with a laser would take a long time and could be accomplished much quicker with a router although would take practice if you're not handy with one.

Mike, did they make one that only did flat work? My 3400 was mainly used for cylindrical work but was also capable of flat work. It's possible there was one for flat work only, not sure about that.
