Okay--that is really cool. How do do that?
Greg,
Looks like we are pretty close to each other. Just curious about the "Turner's Challenge"? Which group is sponsoring the challenge? I am a member of the Diablo Valley WoodTurners and the...
Check out John Jordan's jig, it works well with the Wolverine sharpening system and is safe and painless to use.

Amazing, I really love this piece--something I haven't seen before. I would love to see more information about how this was done.
John Jordan makes a nice little jig to help sharpen hollowing bits. For a little lower tech, try a pair of vise grips.
I am also a PWBS-14 owner along with the Riser kit. Bought it in November during the specials Powermatic was running. At this point I am very happy with the purchase, it has plenty of power (I do a...
Great, pot - what kind of finish did you use to simulate the fur, grin?
Welcome to the world of woodturning, its definitly a fun hobby and a real mind-body challenge
Jim,
Not sure its safe to use a SRG on the outside of a bowl (or any face-grained application) either. It simply isn't made for the stresses this places on the tool. a bowl gouge is a much safer...
Dale,
One thing to think about with a Gas Chainsaw that is occasionally used is that regular gasoline will break down over time (alternative is to drain the tank after use). I am using a product...
Looks like some of my attachments didn't make it. Here are the missing ones:

All,
I have been a bit of a lurker here for many months but wanted to thank everyone for all of the good information and advice that I gleaned from your discussions. I recently moved from a condo...
just what I need
You might consider an alternative pump.
I am happy with this one, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017R95DI, from Amazon.
Harbor Freight also has one,...
John,
I hear you n that ....
Have to tell you a funny story that just happened to me. My sister-in-law (god bless her) is a bit obsessive compulsive and a neat freak. Last Saturday she was...
I can attest that the 6" blast gates from Lee Valley fit perfectly inside 6" S/D PVC pipe. I did have to caulk to get a better seal.
Also, my blast gates are on the downhill of a Wye fitting so I...
Jamie,
Normally any finish will work on top of Shellac. Its part of my standard process to help sand/seal a bowl and also provide a more air-tight barrier for vacum chucking.
I can vouch for the 6" blast gates from Lee Valley as well. I am currently trying to build my system and just checked last night.
All,
Like many, I am also working on my dust collection system. I am looking for a 6" Floor Sweep that won't cost me an arm and a leg (the Grizzley one is $150!).
Does anyone have a...
Quick update --- I was able to remove the Wipe-on Poly with Acetone and then gave the bare wood a good rub with more Acetone.
Applied a tung oil finish that seems to have taken, but I left the...
Do you have a recomendation for a chemical stripper?
Well, I have been happy with using PolyUrethane in the past on bowls I plan to use in the kitchen. Tung Oil is another finish I have used and it doesn't seem to wear very well in use. Shellac doesn't...
Actually I think its the oil in the IPE wood causing the problem.
The Wipe On Poly is good--finishes on a previous bowl worked just fine.
Now I have to figure out how to save the bowl...

All,
Well I should have researched using the piece of IPE I got at the BAWA wood raffle before I tried finishing with Wipe-On-Poly—it still is tacky after days.
I did use Mineral Spirits to...
I confess that I feel so much better after reading all of your confessions!!!!
I am not alone!
Grin--my wife absolutely needs to read this thread so she will realize, its not me who has the...
