If you are going to nail it I would use galvinized ring shank nails. I use a framing gun. If the nail sticks out the back side, just angle your nail a little.

I feel your pain! I took 1/2" off my middle finger on my left hand in Nov. and took a corner off the other middle finger 2 years ago.
I have the Rockler clamps and love them. I you watch the Rockler sails you can some times get them for 1/2 price.
Don't forget to plan for new tools that you plan to add in the future!
Check the hood over the blade. On the back side there should be some slots or ports for the dust to go into. They might be blocked.
On the job it is cordless!!!!

The only place that I have found localy is a place called Hogdon's. There are several wholesalers in the area, but I do not need 800 feet. LOL
Each piece for the top would be 3/4 x1 1/2 x48. They will be glued together to make the top.
