What an amazing project Derek. How wonderful you are sharing all that goes into it, the good the bad and the restarts. My hat is off to you.

Wow Derek stellar work. It’s been a while since I’ve poked my nose under the tent and a had a couple of pages to catch up on. Hope your surgery went well and you are recovering nicely. The chairs are...
Thanks Jimmy, I was more sharing what can happen if the magnet was slid along a diamond plate. These are really nice shears and there is no way I would hit them with a hammer or subject then to the...
Making good progress Derek. It’s wonderful seeing how all this comes together.

Yes I retired in the sense that I rarely work on anything that has a deadline, lol. I’m helping on rebuilding a 62’ schooner when I can and when I want, and I do a lot less for money and more for...
Another thought in the rounded tenons, with the somewhat delicate dimensions of the legs a square corner could encourage a split.
Thanks for posting Derek, all good information.

I nailed together a couple of Japanese style tool boxes with the sliding lid. They work well, easy to stack and the wood of the box helps insulate the tools from temperature changes and condensation,...
Mount the vise. They are awesome.

Don’t know what’s going on. You didn’t call me so I put that screw you were looking for in the mail anyway. Hopefully the hole wasn’t retapped to something other than 24 tpi. Hopefully it will get to...
I’ll be sending James the screw in tomorrow’s mail.
Jim
Yea, I’ve got that screw. PM me your address and I’ll mail it out to you.

I believe I still have a parts plane. Can you post a pic of what you have and I’ll look and see what I’ve got.
Jim
I don’t care what the judges think, I like them.

Lee Valley used to have one in the four inch range (I’d have to measure mine to be sure) but I didn’t see it in the online catalog. It was nice with a laminated wood body.
What size are you looking...
I think I read the springs from Bic lighters will work, but I haven’t confirmed it.
Jim
Very nice Derek. You sure have some nice woods to work with. Love seeing your thought process.
Jim
It can be used with any screw but you may not get the performance shown in the video, that would depend on the fit of screw to nut.
Jim
Thanks Derek, still here just not posting much. Just recently getting my shop up and running after the move to Maine.
i was more thinking the magnet would hold the swarf to the stone while in use. A...
Caution on using a magnet to hold the ‘stones’ it will also attract all that swarf that you sharpen away.
Jim
Thanks, it never hurts to ask.
Jim
Im looking for one of these if there is one in the mix. Thanks Cameron.
