A magnetic saw vise would be major PITA. File shavings all over the vise and the saws will get magnetic, too. Horror.
Do you really need to fill the gap? Does the vise lamps the saws well?

I stone all our blades, but I use blue tape to mask the sides of the blade but not the teeth. One layer on each side for the small saws and two on the bigger. And I use Grain 600 or G 400 Sandpaper...

I never sawed with one of their cross cut saws, but I think the diferences are small. the smaller saw will be a bit better on thin stock about 1/2", the bigger saw better on tenon...
Why not buying the plate (fits in a letter) and making your own body?
