Depends on the turner and the lathe! I have a 12" lathe with a 1/2 hp motor I turn bowls around 12 18 rpm. Now If I was turning a 16" bowl on a large lathe, that would be a bad idea

Instead of using burning wire to make marks, I use a piece of scrap laminate. It sits on the tool rest and there is no danger for your fingers...

Good idea! I've also been told that just spreading some wax inside the mold would help too. Aluminum foil...not so much.
