This is my first cutting board. An interesting pattern emerges from the flowing "S" shape and works really well with the high...
Depends on the turner and the lathe! I have a 12" lathe with a 1/2 hp motor I turn bowls around 12 18 rpm. Now If I was turning a 16" bowl on a large lathe, that would be a bad idea
When I first bough my bowl gouge I was so excited I gave it a go and destroyed 4 bowl blanks in a row. I had no idea how hard it was going to be.
Turning is a skill not a gift, and skills come...

A zoetrope is an animation toy that literally translates to "life turning." While I had many challenges on this build, I have to say is it easily one of my favorite creations. I have a particular...
What a cool thread!
Instead of using burning wire to make marks, I use a piece of scrap laminate. It sits on the tool rest and there is no danger for your fingers...

Sorry for my chisel bumbling to all the hand-tool fanatics... :smirk:
Sweet. I wish I'd seen that before. I like that angle for the pencil!
Thanks

Yeah... The answer is the ends all had pin nails sticking out of them, and I wanted to plane the wood down. At that point I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the top. The oval came to me after...

A spalted wooden sink? I'm not sure how that would even work.
