1. I've never considered mahogany to be an oily wood, though I'm not familiar with santos mahogany.
2. Mahogany and EI rosewood are commonly used to build guitars and those guitars are commonly...
Why not just let go of the switch?
Please count me in too and thanks Rob.
I built my bench with square holes. I wish I would've made them round- much more useful.
I was having trouble getting started with SU too. For me, this tutorial got me going: http://www.garymkatz.com/recent_articles.html (scroll down to "Sketchup tutorial: Drawing a bookcase using groups...
Please add my name to the list and thanks CW.
I play a harpsichord (but not very well).
Well, I've only done this a couple times so I'm no expert. I melted the stick onto the iron and then pressed it into the wood. The melted shellac had the consistency of gooey candy (if that makes...

Hi Chris,
PM works for me and I think we share the same e-mail interface.

I'd guess it depends on what you're carving, but I'd bend first too. If you carved first, it might not bend as evenly.
I've had my 1442 for about 4 years as well and haven't had any trouble with it. A lower speed would be nice, but I like it anyway.
Thanks David. I found this article by Fred Wilbur at FWW which seems to describe what you're doing.

Steve,
Thanks a ton! Is that a "duet" bench or standard size?
Steve,
Thanks- if you don't mind poking around and getting some pictures, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks, and you're right, I don't like the price!
I've seen pictures of these, but I've never seen one in person. These benches are rectangular and seem to have a knob on the side to adjust the seat height. I'd guess it's some kind of cam or scissor...
I like the desk part. The top/hutch seems to overpower everything because of its size (height). What if the top part were about half as tall?
I've had a couple installed- in both cases they cut through the driveay (blacktop in one case, concrete in another). Not sure what machine they used.
Make sure you fasten the cutter to the arm well. DAMHIKT.
