I'm on board with the OP.
Often deciding on one tool over another involves an estimate of the time required to make it ready for use. I have experienced the "obnoxious, insoluble coating on hand...
Here's some interesting truth via SEM.

Just a long shot, but I would double check your other blades on the same wood. Or the LN blades on something else.
Once I had a random batch of regular Red Oak that was some how loaded with a blade...
In my experience, I see the more problematic jump is from the diamond to the medium. Spyderco mediums can take a long time to remove even fine diamond scratches. It quickly puts a shine on a bevel...
Great stuff Kees. Thanks for sharing what you learned!
I couple decades ago, I realized there was more to grinding than just grinding.
I was annoyed at how slow shaping a chisel was where I...
I feel the original question was answered.
The image I had in my mind was a microscopic photo taken at the instant an abrasive particle was plowing through the steel. While the chip is still...
Thank's Patrick!
Your simplified answer is just my size.
As I say, I have the faith from experience, I have just found my imagination lacking to explain it.
The lager deformation of the chip...
I have a strange theoretical question.
I've been a woodworker 30 years. I know sharpening on a high speed grinder works without softening tools if you keep them relatively cool. We all do it. It's...
I make thin wedges quite a bit in the repair of instruments. I stick a piece of sharp sandpaper down on a little granite plate and friction holds the wedge.
Thanks for your reply Stan.
You brought up a couple of things that relate to the reason I posted.
I seem to always be on a search for a small one handed plane that has a collection of features...
My search turned up a 7! page thread on the origins of the coffin shape so I figure this must be the place for plane design theory.
I'm referring to the plan view of the sole. Are they often D...

For what it's worth, here is the green bar I have. Must be 15+ years old. I Can't remember where it came from. Probably enough for
everyone on the forum for the rest of there lives.

I have used it on MDF. I'll try working with it until it breaks down.
Apologies for beating double death on the subject.
In regards ceramic stones, George you and I are as one.
Yet follow thee into the land of green paste I cannot.
For under glass, scratch's from such, to mine eyes, appear much larger than UF...
Thanks for the posting help.:)
I guess it's not really a handle shape issue but I find chisels that are set with the handle nearly parallel with the back of the blade much less ergonomic in use.
Just a few degrees off parallel...
If you open up your Hold heat pot, I think you will find a screw to adjust the temperature.
Make sure your thermometer is correct.
192 gram strength is plenty strong.
I use a pair of 250 watt...
Gorgeous Steve.
How big are they?
Did you make the caps and irons?
Thanks Jim, that's a generous offer. I'm in Durango Colorado so a bit of an outpost. I repair stringed instruments and there is a lot of trimming and shaping of small flexible pieces.Work holding is...
I guess I never took a #1 seriously. I would like to have one in my hand to try. It's hard to imagine it would be a comfortable one hand grip. I was envisioning a squirrel tail type w/ a double iron.
Close cap iron settings have really changed how I work for the better. A one handed plane like a 102 or block is the size that would most benefit from less cutting resistance. I wish there were more...
I've been lurking for a while. I got drawn to the forum following the great bevel up vs. cap Iron debate. I feel indebted to those who took the time to sort it out w/ research. Tear out on difficult...
That's the same one I bought at ace hardware. Got a pmv 11 replacement blade for it, cut the ends off to make it a little shorter and lighter and it works as well as a high dollar plane. Mine is...
