This was a pretty good year for classes and seminars. I took a Jimmy Clewes class in February and I attended American Association of Woodturner's Symposium in Hartford. With this year almost over,...
Lots of good stuff here. I like the Rob C. way of laying out and cutting dovetails. Two things stand out to me when making dovetails.
1) Sawing accurately to a line. Honestly I think with a bit of...
Assuming you already have the tools and you simply need to get the know how, I recommend Marc Adams' Woodworking Series. You can purchase and download them immediately here.
I don't necessarily...
I was watching Mike Mahoney's latest video - Heirlooms (great vid by the way) and I noticed the chucks he was using. Does anyone know what kind it is and where to get one?
Happy Holidays!
Tim
Bernie,
You are indeed correct. I went to another Home Depot and find it. Thanks!
Tim
They only had it in 12" length.
I live in Calgary. I have been to several locations in the city but I'm not sure where to get a Lamp Rod. Any ideas? This shouldn't be too difficult, eh?
Tim:)
I seem to be a collector of Mortise and Tenon jigs. I rarely use my mortiser these days. While strong, it's the slowest method (for me). Next up is the Festool Domino. It's the fastest, cleanest...
If you really want to make a hand plane I'd say check this out. The video is cheap, very informative, and allows you to download it immediately. Get the info here.
Honestly, I would try something...
I have the Powermatic and have added the dowel rail that they describe in the manual. Inside of that I added about 300 lbs of tile (1 foot tiles fit in perfectly). The lathe was already heavy but...
I have tried a few saws this week. My favorite was Rob Cosman's new dovetail saw. While it was the heaviest of the bunch, it was also incredibly well balanced. I kept going back to this saw whenever...
I just went through the same challenge. How do I heat my workshop\detached garage? I initially was going to get a forced air heater but the $5000 price tag (installed) was too high. Then someone...
I just moved into my new house. My workshop is going to be in a 2 car detached garage. I am looking to install a forced air heater in there. Does anyone know who I should contact to see about getting...
I am getting ready to move to my new house and the garage is going to be where my shop is going to be. It is serviced by a 40 Amp circuit. I'm trying to figure out how to break this out.

Finish Observations:
Mineral Oil: Yes it's cheap. However I did not find it to be overly durable. And despite my best efforts to saturate the wood with mineral oil the first time I tried to wash...
Over the last couple of days, I have been trying to order Salad Bowl Finish from the States without success (I live in Alberta, Canada). Does anyone know of a vendor in Canada that I can order from?...
A couple of things:
I have already spent a fortune on my bandsaw in terms of modifications. And I am using a good quality blade and it's a new blade. Buying another bandsaw is not really an...
If there is something else I can do to improve my blade drift, I'm all ears. Right now my blade drift is very bad so this could be a good learning exercise. Thanks!
Tim
I can't think of the brand but it's a high quality blade. 1/2" 3TPI. I just put a new blade on so it's definitely sharp. Sometimes I go for 1/8" veneer. Sometimes a I try for 1/2".
One of the most frustrating tools in my shop is my bandsaw. I use about half time for veneers and the other half for general cutting. When it comes to cutting veneers my success rate if about 50%....
I have to say that I had never heard of a Robust Lathe. The design and the engineering looks great!
For anyone following this thread...I ended up with the Nova 1624-44. They had one on sale which included a heavy duty stand. I would have loved to get the Craftex CT128 but it was a bit more and I...
David has this one covered. You must veneer both sides to prevent bowing.
Wilbur,
I have just added this to the list. Thanks!
