Congratulations Dick,
You must be living right.
Dave
Unfortunately, they're already back out of stock again. They must of gotten in samples from the first manufacturing run and that's what you guys got.
Good review Kurt. Thank you.
I didn't see where you'd bought the jumbo flat jaws. Did you? And in your opinion are they a good size to use with a Jet 1236 or HF 34706?
Dang, that's what I get for not reading the posting date. What did you replace the HF lathe with and what motivated you to upgrade?
Mike,
A couple thoughts, just my own though.
On the base, you might want to order one from someone like lee Valley, as they have some nice ones that should hold up better than the cast iron ...
I used to play a lot of chess in my younger days. To me, compared to pieces I remember playing with, it appears the cross is too close to the rest of the piece. In other words, it looks like you...
Kurt,
Glad to hear somebody finally got that chuck in their hands. I've been looking at it for a while, but they put it in their catalog before they actually had stock. I also am looking forward...

Randy,
Thanks for the information. I'm not suprised about the grease. I saw the stuff years ago with captured weapons and equipment stores. (Don't ask where or when.) Seems like the Chinese...
Randy,
Which of the two live centers did you pick up? This one:

Chris,
Thanks for the link, but I'd read that thread and it didn't answer my basic question, which was what does one absolutely need in the way of tools to turn the pens.
I have a HF 34706 lathe and would like to buy every tool necessary, but no unncessary tools, to turn pens. Can someone recommend all the tools I need?
II see they have screw on mandrels for a 1" X...
Ed,
Call them direct on their 800 number. Suffolk Machinery is not email responsive, but their phone service is absolutely the best.
Dave
Tim,
Give the guys at Suffolk Machinery a call. They helped me convert my 4 speed 14" to a single speed at 3000 with just a couple minutes on the phone, plus they sell great bandsaw blades.

Sell the contractor. It should be worth about half of what you paid for it. I"d keep that nice base and find something else you can put on it, especially if you have the original legs that came...
Thank you for the above posts. These things are getting me closer to what I actually need to purchase to complement the more expensive power tools vs. what I think I might "want."
Dave Wright...
I posted this in the power tool forum because I'm seeking responses from those that use and focus on their power tools in order to save time in their woodworking, due to limited time to work or...
Tom,
I'm seen some of Rarebear's work restoring planes. He does a real nice job. Seems like the more I look, the more the option I want to take is to buy restored planes from a guy like...
I just got a catalog from Hartville Tool. In it, I see some planes made in India for a much cheaper price than the LV and LN tools. I'm wondering if anyone has tried these tools and what do they...
I've seen lately where folks have posted various 8" jointers on sale from Grizzly and I've looked at those as well as others. I'm beginning to wonder what specifications are the most important for...
Whatever you do, make sure and incorporate your business. It'll help protect you a good bit.
With the exception of purchasing an 8" jointer, I've reached a point in my woodworking where I'm feeling a need for some handtools to supplement and complement my power tools. To that end, I'm trying...
I just recently bought the bright daylight ones from home depot, they were great.
John,
If cost is any consideration at all, I have not long past bought the Yorkcraft 15" from Wilke Machinery. I didn't have the room for their 20" model, but sure wish I did. Both have built in...
