Very interesting, you got me thinking of some ideas. I believe a trip to HF is in order this weekend...as if I needed an excuse. Thanks for posting John.

In my opinion, leveling a laser serves no significant purpose, unless grossly out of level ie coolant bubbles, material movement, etc. The table and laser planarity are the critical factor for a...
Ok, sanity check/rant. How much extra would any of us be willing to pay for the exact machine made in our own countries? 10% 20%... There is a lot to be said for the way something is made rather...
I am right there with you on that one Kev. I for one force my self to use the word "Project" now for everything. Sounds cold but you never know who sees the EMs, texts, messages, etc. BTW, I am...
Don't discount Makrel's idea, tried it on toast once with good results. Was tempted to raster an Elvis image and sell it to the National Enquirer.:p
The conclusions I drew from my investigation were very similar to Steve's comments. The combination of fence, blade, and friction (table surface) will always create the potential for kickback. The...
I just stumbled across this topic, very interesting since we just had a "Kick-back" accident in our plastics shop. During the investigation we found it was a common practice to not use knives,...
You could spin that as not a mistake, just a shrewd long term (90 year) investment. Sorry, I head to go there...
Nice work. Was any place on the sword straight? Aligning it for 3 burns must have been a pain. BTW, How many cases of glasses do you have there in the background? :D
The way I look at it, If you make a mistake and catch it, it is not a mistake, it is a lesson learned. Some one else catches it, then it is a mistake and shame on you. And believe me, I have...
Dennis, Rather then inventing something from scratch using 8020, and such, check out Open Builds product line. They offer extruded aluminum rails, carriages, and motor packages for a good price. ...
Your thoughts make sense Bill. After some basic online research, I could not tell how these systems control water temp if they get too cold. I have seen a more sophisticated type of digital hot gas...
Your ambient temp is ~16c and I think 20c is the lowest these units are allowed to go. Not sure what type of controller you have so I am just swaging it. My first thought is the system is confused...
Ok, the idea has been brewing over night, dangit I had work to do today. Two options, SS laser that mounts and moves like the spindle (think JT Photonics). Other, fix the laser (co2, fiber, ss) and...
It is a weekend.;) Throw in a dead man switch and a foot power feed, and you have a new art form.
Other then the obvious cleanliness/lubrication I would go all long the lines of Bill G's thoughts. Those timing pulleys look awfully corroded, possibly causing skipping. Possibly even so much so...
Why get rid of the other lasers? Swap out the spindle with a small solid state laser and put it back to work with the others. Something to be said about getting back to the "hands on" feel. ;)
And so quickly the bliss has passed. :( Those moments when every thing falls into line are so rare, you have to savor them when they do occur. Good luck, there is always peace again just on the...
Now that is way cool, very clever. It would be cool to see those start showing up as a retro trend. Hmmm, has got me thinking, save three panels and make it a seven segment display.
I will Second Mike's recommendation for Super Bright, and also suggest Lighting Ever. I have used both for various projects similar to what you may be doing.
