You have a point Ian...
But I am sloppy when it comes to plans. The most I will ever do is make a perspective sketch of a job, with dimensions and notes.
I do type out step-sheet, just to stay...
I designed my shop on the basis that everything would go where there was room for it.
Wrong!
If you are left-handed for instance, that will dictate which side of the shop your workbench will be....
I was going to point out:
I've been drilling square holes for years with my hollow-mortice chisel! (Please note I am a Limey, so my spelling 'mistakes' are not mistakes at all. Nor are they typos! )...
If you don't mind the expense of keeping a stock of varying grades of 'wet'n dry' abrasive sheets, you don't really need a stone, to keep your blades and chisels sharp.
Using the 'scary-sharp',...
Very nice dovetailing. I like to chamfer (Shamfer) the corner of through dovetails for a final touch. The light reflects from the wood and from some angles the joint looks like a half-blind (Lap)...
I just had another look at the job you want to do.
If you could clamp all the pieces together, you could do all seven housings/dadoes in one go, with the router.
Just make the side limiting...
I think so too.
But if you have to use a machine, do it with a router. That's what a router is good at; hogging out. Plus, it's safer and quicker than a hand-held, power saw.

I am thinking of a Hock as a replacement blade for a No. 4 I have.
Am I alone in thinking that the Hock Blade, with its square profile, makes a plane look a bit clunky? And I wonder does Ron make...
Tip over. Sometimes I find the No 5 topples over, the plane body that is. Doesn't happen so easily with a Number 4 due to the short length. The wide blades have more of a base to rest on.
Planing...
Fair comment Derek.
But I find in the longer planes 5 and a half F/I, the wider blade/body is less inclined to topple on wide boards. Narrow boards it don't make much difference nohow!

Does it come with a 'Sat-Nav' or a site map!!!
Nice workspace
John
That's not an easel.. It's an ADVENTURE!
Nice work.

:D
I hope I didn't 'bump' this post illegally!
The Leigh Dovetail jig does much more than just cut dovetails.
You can buy various templates to allow finger joints and through mortice and tenons....
I reckon as long as your tools are halfway decent, they can always be made to perform better. Once they are working well, then you can't blame them if things go wrong.
Download this vid. It's...
Thank you Gary.
I was surfing for details of the jig but there was nothing very useful to me. It seems there is a dearth of suppliers in the UK in any case, so I should have to buy from the USA....
Hi Gary...
I see that your jig is mounted with a wall close behind it. Are all work pieces worked vertcally in this jig please?
Regards
John
:)
I favour the Leigh, but there is one other jig I use for run of the mill drawers for kitchens and workshops etc.
The Keller.
Pros.
Easy to set up and use.
Doesn't use guide bushes, but...
I just noticed. The original post is five years old! :o

Don't forget... You can use a panel saw for wide, deep tenons.
Tenons mostly involve rip-cuts so a dovetail saw will do the job. I use a dovetail saw for sawing dovetails. Nothing else, but...

Just my warped sense of humor my friend!

I reckon you mean a P.I.T.B?

Hi Folks,
Over here in the UK, we buy timber by the cubic foot.
I.e., a board 12 feet long by 1 foot wide by 1 inch thick, is obviously one cubic foot in volume.
If I cut a twelve inch piece...
