You should be able to sand through that wax quite easily using a 600 grit or better paper.
Or if you prefer, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) should melt the wax.
The alcohol will probably...
Thanks to all. And I think Lit has a good point about the joists!
Can new flooring be installed over the old flooring boards, particularly if there is no existing sub-floor in place at this time? In effect the old flooring would become the sub-floor. The existing...

If you have the 2009 issues of Fine Woodworking, there was an article along about August on prefinishing before assembly.
Reading through that article might help resolve some of your...

John:
Would you remind me what kind of lathe you decided on?
Take a look at GnuCash before you buy anything else.
It's free. Might not do all you want, but worth a look.
Try a VA hospital, if there is one in your area.
Very nice!
Can't quite make it out in the picture--have you coated/sealed the ends of all the boards? If not, best do that real soon.
Mitchell:
Did you say new shop? Will we be hearing more about this (pics?)
For all the old handtool knowledge being brought back, there's still a thing or two to learn!
I'd like to hear feedback after some of you try this.
The Ramones were always a tough group, hard to wear down. :D
Love the wood. How did you come by it?
Philip:
True enough, but I'm reminded of something I heard about photographers:
Libraries use metal strips hidden in books as a security measure. The strips are magnetized, and then de-magnetized when the book is checked out. When returned, the strip is re--magnetized and...
I have one too, and have been wondering just what job it would be well suited for.
What about dados and rabbets on small drawers?
That's too easy. Mortises are supposed to be tough, difficult, real work. ;)
Anyone on SMC have one of these units?
Check out the solid wood business card holders that this guy makes too, at...

Thanks for one of the most interesting threads in quite some time (I lurked here for a long time before joining).
It would be great if one of the magazines is watching and would contact...

The only thing I've ever seen like that is the Greene 4470 table, which will set you back about $1500.00

I have to say I like your design better....
I had that same three-stage unit for a long time.
If it was me, I'd wait patiently till things lighten up, keep sweeping in the meantime, then first get one of those dust deputy outfits. Later,...
Beautiful work, and true to the style.
Looking at the online catalog description for the Veritas LA Jack plane, there is this at the end of the blurb:
"Blades are shipped with a pyramidal storage box, to keep the edge at its sharpest...
On another thread, someone used one of those cases under a DC bag, as support.
Otherwise, with enough of them, I guess you could built a "green" house.
That'd be interesting.
There was an article some time back in Fine Woodworking on using story sticks. Check their online index.
