I've used both the cheap contra angle handpieces and the NSK presto, and for the forms I use, I prefer the Presto.
Some folks have spoke of problems plumbing the contra angle hand pieces. The...
It burns for me as well, so I use a fan to blow the smoke away from me. Given the shank size and depth of cut, you can't feed fast enough to avoid burn. Imagine a router with a half inch strait cut....
The small plastic jello shot cups from the party store, I rarely use any fluids (finish, gesso etc.) that even comes close to filling these on any session on a project. They also are adequate for the...
Beautiful detail on the carving and colors to embellish the turning
Thanks everyone
I use an NSK Presto which is a pneumatic dental handpiece. Basically a 320,000 RPM rotary carver. I have a short snippet of video on my mobile phone, not sure how to post...
Sycamore bowl pierced and airbrushed. The competing elements of fire and water are in balance. The piercing was my public demo at the New England Woodworking Show. Finished with waterborne lacquer....
Norway Maple Bowl, pierced and Airbrushed. Made as a wedding present for a Hindu wedding in India. The lotus is an important Hindu symbol, the red is an auspicious color for the wedding, while the...
Poplar platter airbrushed with the tree crowns of Sweden for my father who grew up there. Finished with waterborne lacquer. Roughly 8" (20cm) across.

Great job on all of them. I really love the middle one, but the other two are great as well.
Sad news, I enjoyed the rotations I attended presented by him at Totally Turning, and appreciated his enthusiasm.
Very sad development, not just for the woodturning community, and a great guy like Joe, but for all the crafts the parent company had in their portfolio.
Congratulations! A great piece, and I look forward to seeing that issue.
Thanks
The beads are identical in size, I used a d-way beading tool.
I did almost no sanding on the beads
Thanks, this was an unusual thing for me to cover the bowl with beads. Normally I avoid a lot of details as I view them as hard to clean when used on a daily basis, but finally had to give it a try.
Thanks, I've been traveling on business so much in the last 12 months that I rarely get shop time. It was nice to get back in the shop and have some fun.
Thanks,
The facets are an artifact of the photo tent, it is actually smooth inside. Unfortunately, I have already handed it in to the church where the tree used to live for their auction, so I...

Great photos as usual and even better to see you at the event.
I must be the exception, but I prefer handles that I can swap tools in. I normally store my tools edge in when not in use, and have a few gouges for each handle. I have my go to gouges normally in...
I've had mine for a couple of years and love it. It is very well designed and a joy to use.
Great idea, I was intrigued by the pencil bowl blank but never thought of what else could be done with the concept.
Fantastic design!
Quite amazing craftsmanship and a beautiful design.
