Restoring a Unisaw is not that difficult if you are at all mechanically inclined. There is lots of help and tutorials available online, both here and especially over at OWWM.org. The only tricky...
Velocite #10 is what folks at owwm recommend, and is what I use on my Crescent 12” from the 1940’s. If your bearings seem to run hot with that, then maybe try velocite 6, which is a little thinner.
I will agree with Wayne, and add a couple of suggestions. One is to tell your optician what you want your glasses to do. Tell him or her what distances are most important for you to see clearly....
You also might try swapping in a different brand of belt to see if that helps. And maybe try cleaning the sheaves in case they have some oil or grease on them.
In general you don't want to add...
Three things that I do not mentioned yet. I work alone in a home garage shop. First, I keep a Dylos particle meter on when I'm working to let me know when fine dust levels are unhealthy. If they are,...
If what you mean is that it will be too cold for the next 6 months to properly glue up a top, then you could, assuming you start with roughly a bunch of 2x4s or similar hardwood:
drill holes and...
Ya know, it doesn't fit in our house, either! But it will work in our guest room, where none of the furniture matches, anyway (an nherited Eastlake bed, Shaker end table, and a cast off Shaker candle...
I got the idea for this from a picture of a coffee table in the gallery of recent student work at the Krenov School. The student, whose name was not cited, called the piece "Bubbly Lake" table. You...
I order from Woodcraft Bands, in North Carolina. Family shop, phone orders only, great selection, excellent welds. They have an online catalog with pricing.
I'm also a hobbyist. I started making prototypes for my work a couple of years ago and I have found it immensely useful. For the last four pieces I've done my workflow has been to start with...
Here's another vote for Accurate Bearing. Lynne knows her stuff, their prices are good, and their shipping is very reasonable. As Randall said, it helps a lot to have all the original bearing info in...
I had a similar situation when we moved into our current house. I called my city building inspector's office and explained what I wanted to do (how much weight, joist dimensions, span, distance...
If the geometry give you access, then try a pencil eraser. Simple and clean. I've succeeded with that. I'd avoid any kind of spray. That just makes a mess. I know because I've done it......Or if you...
Sure: The top is 12-1/4" x 8-1/8". The box is about 1/4" less both dimensions. The box including the plinth and top is 5-1/8". The plinth and top are 5/8" thick. There isn't anything magical about...
OK, i just measured. When I stand at my drill press, my head is 30" from the wall so the chuck and my hands are closer than that. I'm a little closer than 30" when I use my lathe, which against the...
Thanks, folks. Yes, the hinges are a bit spendy. But the wood was all leftover from other projects so the hinges and cloth were my only expenses. And, hey, my wife is worth it! I also like the way...
As far as I know the Greene bros never designed a jewelry box. My wife and I like their esthetic so I wanted to make a box for my wife using some of their design features.
Mahogany and ebony...
Assuming that you will be working at benches or machines that are up against the perimeter walls, you might consider moving the perimeter lights a bit closer to those walls. The reason being that if...
I would also recommend asking at owwm. Someone there may either have the babbitt shells you need, or be willing to let you borrow a set to send to a foundry to have new ones cast.
Earring racks are easy if you have people on your list who wear earrings. You can make them any size. Plenty of images of similar on the internet. A good use of scraps. They often have both slots and...
If you call Eagle Machinery and tell them the serial number they can give you all the info you need about that machine.
Thinking again, since you have several tools, you also could use CL to advertise a one or two day shop sale on their Garage Sale link. The plus is that you can do it all in one or two days, like a...
Carl, Craigslist will probably work for you but if you haven't sold on CL before, you should be prepared for potential complications.
Sometimes people say they are on their way and then don't...
Stan, those are #6 screws. I drilled the holes first, then I screwed the screws in up to the shaft, then used a jeweler's saw to cut off the heads, then carefully filed the stubs flat, then sanded...
