Very nice!
The veneer was 25 thousands thick...sold in sheets...inserted between each segment and between each layer.I,m not sure the kind of wood the veneer was..
It,s been awhile..I should have said...
It,s fiquired soft maple and dyed black veneer...516 pcs. And obviously still on the chuck...The finish takes forever...hence.. "still on the chuck"

Yes,I guess it is a form of segmenting..And yeah,you cut apart a single board and glue it up..It took the same amount of wood to make the bowl as it did to make the lid.
It measures 8 in...

It all works together for me.The pedestal and finial really flow..I like the heft(fiquiratively)of the base pedestal as it transitions to the delicate finial. Very pleaseing to my eye.
I,ve worked with the highway dept. here in Akron and go out for all bad weather.We closed 8 roads sunday night because of fallen trees and power lines.It,s the worst I have seen short of the blizzard...
The shape is "different", but appealing to me.To my ametuer eyes the construction looks great!
