Thanks for the thoughts. I'll try again tomorrow. I was never able to get full access to the sprockets/posts despite taking off every part I could. I was able to create some slack in the chain....
My planer will not raise or lower. I've spent the past few hours trying to fix it and would appreciate any advice. It's a dewalt 13". You can see from the picture that the planer is no longer level...
Thanks, all. To answer questions about materials: unassembled maple ply pieces to be finished with shellac, interior only. Size varies from 18-36" wide with standard 24 depth and 30 height. Tongue...
Marc - I'm talking about the carcase, not the face frame.
Martin - Do you do only one grit? Which one(s)? How often do you change disks?
How long does it take you to sand a cabinet? I'm building standard base cabinets and each is taking about an hour to sand (carcase only). This seems incredibly inefficient.
I'm using my RO sander...
Thanks for all the thoughts!
Jamie - If you use the baltic birch for drawers, you don't have any issues with just using the dado stack? That sounds like the way to go if so.
Lee - I use...
I've built cabinets before, but I'm about to embark on a big build and would like to simplify my process. I've read a lot of articles an d forum posts with great suggestions, but I have a few...
Thanks for the advice, everyone! I can plane 1/32 off each side and only lose 1/16 of each 1" strip. I don't think that will be noticeable at all. Given that people seem to think it would be the most...
I'm making an edge grain butcher block table top out of walnut. It has a lot of sapwood, and I was trying to see how it would look as I laid out the strips. I couldn't tell if the color would be...
Thanks for all the help! I made the cuts and they turned out well. I had to ensure the workpiece went all the way past the blade to maintain full control.
Here's a picture with my helpers.

That's an interesting one, Peter! I make my cabinets like that and have an extension fence that is about 15" high. The bevel does come to a bit of a point, but it may still work - there is trim. :D
Jerry and Mike - the bevel angle is 10 degrees. It is cut like a parallelogram, not a trapezoid.
I thought that if the less than 90 degree portion of the blade trapped the keeper against the...
Jerry, can you explain a bit more why this would be okay? I still see the keeper between the blade and the fence. Is it because the sled doesn't contact the fence?
I have a 16" wide and 60" long workpiece that will have bevels on both 60" edges (front of a bench). Is there any way to safely make the bevel on a right tilt saw? I only have about 12" of purchase...
Thanks, all. I'll be switching to MDF.
Two (slightly off topic questions).
1. Do you use 1/4 or 1/2 with a rabbet? I'm unable to find a source for 1/4 near me (hardwood supplier and lumber...
Thanks, Jim. As you and John suspected, it is the wood itself. Two more coats and still visible in exactly the same area.
Can you explain what it means that it's the wood itself? Shouldn't...
Thanks, Adam. I suspected as much. This is a test run for a much larger install. I had already decided I needed to upgrade the panels. This makes that even more necessary. I'll try a sand and another...
It's on 2 of the 4 and only on the plywood panels, not the rails/stiles. I guess it's possible. The folks at the store said the two paints were compatible. They are generally pretty good on this...
Oh, and I should mention that the finish is being sprayed with HVLP. However, it's not a topcoat issue, as the same ghosting is consistently visible through the first two coats.
There is a weird ghosting pattern on a cabinet door I have sprayed. It's not too visible in normal light, but is in direct light (see flash photo).
The plywood panel was filled with wood filler...
I've been struggling to make centered grooves in cabinet door rails. I spent some time doing some algebra today and thought I would share my formula. Now I have to actually learn how to feed the...
Thanks, everyone. Looks like that lumber is going to be looking for another project to call home! Back to the ash (which I can actually afford in thicker boards). :)
Thanks, Jim. This is my first time working with walnut...good to have that info on glue lines.
Do you think the rest of the table would look odd laminated (legs, runner, etc.)? If not, then I...
Andrew – I get that you don’t like it. But can you explain to me more about the “hard lines”. Wouldn’t that have to be done for the base/legs anyway? Otherwise, you would need to make it out of like...
