it is really nice.. fantastic wood.. the goblet and stem, finials are just gorgeous.. I "might" say the top of the lid, APPEARS, to be stepped? I would think it needed to be more "rounded" like a...
nice.. wear a dust mask.. Walnut gives me a TERRIBLE headache.. I've heard walnut shavings will kill a horse, so they don't use it on stable floors..
lacquer is kinda soft until it "cures".. so I usually build up 3 coats, let it dry 3 days, then sand w/600... two more coats. dry 3 days.. sand 1000.. two more coats, wet sand 2000, 1 more light but...

The "ways" are the flat bands that your tailstock and toolrest slide on.. I use a little WD-40 steelwool on that, then some topcoat to keep the rust away.. After turning some Mesquite, you want to...

If the price is right, it's a good lathe to...
No..A laceration, might not cause death.. might make you "WANT" to be dead, but you probably won't die.
Sounds right to me.. Exactly my plan.
biggest problem I've seen with the Grizzly Lathes, is the "slow speed".. is not slow enough.. That is something they have addressed in the latest offerings though.. They're "OK" but the Jets, Delta...
Look at the BACK side of the leaf.. If it appears to be sort of silver, or greyish..It's apple. IF it's greenish? IT's Cherry. I'm goin with cherry, which makes it an awsome grab.
Exactly.. they are nice.. "but" the foot might need to be just a 1/4" MAYBE 1/2" smaller?
Yes, the tool is probably dull, but in really hard wood, or Wet wood as well, it can mean you trying to cut too much at one time.. pull off of it abit, and take two cuts to remove that much wood. It...

My old hobby was model airplanes.. that thing spinning at 3600 rpm brought back really bad memories of being hit by the prop of a nitromethane burning little motor spinning a 10/6 prop.. on Bobs...
I think we're all grown ups on this forum.. Grown ups should be able to handle a little constructive critique. I know sometimes my finials lack nice curves, I know sometimes my bowl feet are a little...
I have alot of sycamore that I've only had moderate success with.. It moves.. it moves a lot. I tried cutting spindle blanks with a table saw, and it moved so fast I couldn't get a really square...
