Hello all,
My wife and I want to wish everyone a safe and secure Veteran's Day. Please remember all of our troops who are in harms way, and who have given the ultimate for our country.
Neal,
Wonderful piece. I'm not talented enough to critique but when looking at it I wondered what a piece like that would look like if the top were more globular, more spherical. If you try...
Thanks for the responses. I'll look for a machine shop to work over my forstner bits.
Thanks again.
Hello all,
I was wondering what the effect of using the Drill Doctor to sharpen you pen making drill bits. The tolerances are so small that 1) could you use the DD to sharpen them without altering...
Dennis,
I was going to suggest wood turning on line in the projects area, but when I checked it out, they didn't have anything. I'm really surprised. I've made a bell or two, but they weren't...
Glenn,
As near as I can tell, the difference between mini and midi is primarily the manufacturer. Jet makes a "mini" and Delta makes a "midi". I have two Jet minis and have turned an a number of...
My thoughts exactly.
Ray Keyes, not sure I spelled that right, believes the lid on boxes should be snug or loose depending on the use. If it's for paper clips or something, it should be loose, if it's for jewelry, snug...
Does anyone remember Carole Valentine? She and her work are featured in the newest Woodturning Design magazine.
Just thought I'd pass it along. We haven't heard from Carole for quite a while.
Steve,
That's a great idea. I've been making peppermills for a while now and have been wanting to experiment with something like that. Ceramic mechanisms are available without a shaft. I have one...
Ok, don't laugh please. I've made a couple mallets from bowling pins. They are hard maple and stand up pretty well. The only problem is, they aren't the older solid wood style, but the newer glued...
Tyler,
What's the significance, purpose, of the wood inside the turning? Since I'm as artistic as a rock, I just can't see what you must. To me, the dark post inside is extremely distracting,
...
Great piece, Bob.
Jess,
Good luck on your search. My only comment right now is that from what I've seen looking around, most of the application deadlines have passed for the summer and possibly for the early fall...
Jess, I'll try to give you a straight answer. I subscribe to craflister.com. It costs $40 for six months. I find it very useful. Also google, or your favorite search engine, for craft show...
Randy,
You're obviously not "Bored" in Boring, OR. Outstanding work. Who did you make it for? Looks like a lot of love went into that.
Mike,
It looks like you left them thick enought that the warping shouldn't be a problem. I've been stabilizing in DNA for quite some time, and have always encountered warping, although I haven't...
Wayne,
The profile on those mills is really great. I'm not sure I like the contrasting wood on the tops, but that's my own thoughts.
How did you finish them?
Brian,
Go ahead and turn it to near final dimensions and soak it in DNA over night. I have done that and have had no problems. Actually, I only did it once, and had no problems.
Let's see it...
Bob,
Great piece. Regarding the top, and the no float bottom, check out David Ellsworth's site. That pot is very Ellsworthian, is that a word?, Anyway, you got something real nice there.
I...
Go for it Ken. If they come out anything like the spindles you did for Dave, I'll quit posting:eek:
I used the ceramic mechanisms for these. I prefer them to the stainless steel grinders,...
Hi,
Been awhile since I got on here. Been too busy. I guess that's what happens when you're retired.
SWMBO collects light houses, I like to make pepper mills, so I thought why not combine the...
Andy, dang it, get better. We miss you as everyone else said.
I didn't know you were a fromer Corpsman. Me too, since I was an 8404 I guess I can say, Semper Fi.
Get well bud.
Andy,
I not only love your turning, but your wit can't be matched. Great stuff.
Mark,
Super bunch of bowls. #3 gets my vote. I like the "almost HF" and the tiny floating foot.
